Asbestos menimbulkan penyakit pleural effusion dan pleural plaques yang berujung pada tumor mesothelioma. Pleural effusions merupakan
cairan nanah berdarah yang ddapat didiagnosa menggunakan radiografi pada
dinding dada secara posterolateral antara rusuk ketujuh-kedelapan.
Chrysotile merupakan
komponen asbestos yang banyak terdapat dalam semen, bahan perekat, dan plastic kekerasan
tinggi. Bahaya asbestos ialah menghirup
serat fiber yang terkandung didalamnya. Ketika Chrysotile terhirup, maka
membentuk cairan mudah larut yang mengkontaminasi cairan tubuh.
Ada kriteria
menentukan apakah sesoerang telah keracunan asbestos.

Benign Pleural Disease
Pleural disease merupakan penyakit paling terkait dengan
asbestos. Namun, Pleurae dianggap lebih sensitive
ke asbestos daripada parenkima
paru. Pleural disease dapat muncul
sebagai pleural effusion,dan plaques.
Pleural Effusion
Benign pleural effusions dianggap fenomena paling cepat dari
kondisi menderita secara pleural.
Malignant Mesothelioma
Malignant mesothelioma terjadi ketika pleura menyebar ke tunica vaginalis testis. Malignant mesothelioma
memiliki rasio risiko 1:100:500 dan bila membesar akan mengakibatkan gangguan
dinding dada.
Conclusion
Perlu menyadari karakteristik asbestos agar tidak menimbulkan malignant mesothelioma. Utuk itu perlu
diadakan pemantauan.
